Core Policies
Our policies form the backbone of our approach.
We work hard to meet and exceed the policy standards set by governing bodies and Jump Left.
Disability Inclusion Policy
Jump Left supports the social model of disability, where societal barriers cause disability, and we strive for disability inclusion based on solidarity and disability justice. Our work is accessible, inclusive, and anti-ableist, reducing obstacles for disabled people. Disability inclusion goes beyond compliance, recognising that disabled people face multiple intersecting barriers. To learn more, visit the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) and the Victorian Government’s State Disability Plan, ‘The social model of disability’ pages. You can read more on our website here.
Communications Policy
Jump Left provides documents in several alternative formats to ensure accessibility. We acknowledge that terminology can impact a person’s identity, well-being and inherent dignity. We also recognise that language evolves and can be contested. As a general rule, we begin with ‘person-first’ language at Jump Left, and will shift language focus between ‘person-first’ and ‘identity-first’, depending on individual preference. Please let us know if you prefer that we use different language when communicating with you. To learn more, visit the Victorian Government’s State Disability Plan, ‘Person-first and identity-first language’ page.
Workplace Health & Safety Policy
Jump Left prioritises the safety of its employees, visitors, and artists through its Workplace Health and Safety Policy. Our policy aims to establish a workplace culture that values safe and healthy practices and ensures physical and emotional safety for all. The policy applies to all employees, contractors, consultants, and visitors who engage with Jump Left and outlines the company’s responsibilities, including complying with all legislation relating to health and safety. Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy workplace environment free from workplace injury and illness through the participation, cooperation and commitment of all our people. To learn more, visit the Work Safe Victoria ‘Create and review your occupational health and safety policy’ page.
Child Safety Policy
Jump Left understands that safety and respect for all are essential aspects of our workplace culture. Our Child Safety Policy outlines our commitment to the safety and well-being of children and young people. This policy is guided by the Child Safe Standards and the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005, which recognise that all children are vulnerable and that organisations are responsible for keeping them safe. The Child Safe Standards aim to allow us to deliver our services in a safe environment and provide parents and carers with confidence in Jump Left’s culture and workplace. To learn more, visit the Australian Institute of Family Studies, ‘Australian Child Protection Legislation’. All Jump Left staff, volunteers and contractors have current Working with Children Checks.
First Nations Policy
Jump Left acknowledges and respects the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we work and create, recognising their ongoing connection to culture, community, and Country. Through our First Nations Policy, we commit to embedding practices of respect, collaboration, and inclusivity that honour the cultural heritage and contemporary contributions of First Nations peoples.
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, collaborators, and visitors who engage with Jump Left, outlining our responsibilities to First Nations peoples, including adhering to Australian standards, legislation, and protocols.
Our commitments include:
Actively promoting the voices and contributions of First Nations artists, collaborators, and community members in all areas of our work.
Respecting cultural knowledge, traditions, and protocols, including proper acknowledgment of Country at events and in communications.
Supporting and engaging with First Nations communities and organisations through partnerships, programs, and employment opportunities.
Creating safe and inclusive spaces where First Nations peoples feel valued and respected.
Continuously learning and evolving through dialogue, training, and reflection to uphold cultural safety and integrity.
Our goal is to be an active ally and partner in reconciliation, contributing to the broader recognition and celebration of First Nations peoples’ cultures and knowledge.
